About
Oatlands Pre-School was established in 1970 and is a charity operating a not-for-profit ethos. This means that all the funds raised go directly to enhancing the childrens experience. The pre-school is located in the heart of Oatlands operating from the Village Hall. It serves the community it’s embedded in and the surrounding areas.
The pre-school is registered to look after children aged from two to four years old and operates mornings in term-time only. We have two large rooms and a fully enclosed outdoor play area.
Our aim is to develop a child’s independence, self-esteem and confidence by providing stimulating activities to help them to understand and engage with the world in which they live. Our team of highly skilled staff have many years of service and work to a key-person system. The key-person is a named practitioner who has responsibility for a small group of children and they are there to help these children feel safe and secure. The role is important for both child and parent and it is an approach set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage. The key-person will respond to a child’s needs and help them settle into their new environment as well as be a first point of communication for parents. The key-person ensures that each child has the opportunity to develop at their own pace. All activities are planned to nurture the child’s physical, emotional, creative and intellectual skills helping them grow into happy and confident individuals. All staff within the child’s class are involved with all the children.
The curriculum is enhanced by planned activities for example chicks that hatch in the classroom and a visiting farm, regular visits from outside providers including sports and dance, and short excursions within the local area.
